Moon Magic

There is a moon inside every human being. Learn to be companions with it.

– Rumi

Since the dawn of time, we have felt a magical bond with the Moon, our closest astronomical body. Her power over us is immeasurable. Not only does she keep the Earth on its axial tilt, the Moon’s rhythmic movements mirror the ebb and flow in our own bodies, the growth of plants, and the cycles of life. Furthermore, she ignites our intuition and emotions, inspiring the greatest works of literature, music, poetry, dance and art.

Navigate the Lunar Cycle

The Moon and Sun are in a constant dance in the sky. As the Moon waltzes around the Earth, the Earth waltzes around the Sun. During the Moon’s approximate 29-day orbit, the changing angles between the Earth, Moon and Sun creates an illusion that the Moon is waxing and waning from our earthly perspective.

There are eight moon phases, each around three and a half days long. Each phase corresponds to an archetypal energy found in nature. When you begin a new chapter in your life, the chapter is colored by the moon phase and sign. Like a natal chart, your new job, project, or relationship holds the frequency of that moment in time.

Here is the archetypal essence of each moon phase:

New Moon

The New Moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle. When the Moon is dark in the sky, you rely on your three-dimensional senses to navigate your life. Like the Crone Moon Goddess, you learn to see in the dark. The New Moon is a fertile time to let your physical sensations and intuition guide your intention setting for the entire lunar cycle.

Waxing Crescent

As the Moon orbits away from the Sun, it’s light grows. The sliver of crescent-shaped moonlight begins to illuminate the path ahead. The growing moonlight also reflects your growing determination and energy.

First Quarter

When the waxing Moon and Sun form a square (or 90-degree) angle in the sky, we are a quarter of the way through the lunar cycle. Like the Maiden Moon Goddess, you have the courage, determination and high-voltage energy to manifest your intention. However, the square angle may create inner tension.

Waxing Gibbous

When the Moon is nearly full in the sky, you get an extra lunar push to accomplish your dreams. With all the buzzing excitement and optimism in the air, you may have trouble sleeping. But who needs sleep when your dreams have nearly come true!

Full Moon

When the Moon is radiant and whole in the sky, moonbeams illuminate success and toxic thoughts, habits and people in your life. This culmination point brings cosmic clarity so you can identify anything that’s counterproductive and release it during the waning moon phase.

Waning Gibbous

When the Full Moon begins to wane, your energy drops slightly and draws inwards. With the Moon still bright in the sky, you can see past mistakes and learn from your experiences.

Last Quarter

When the waning Moon and Sun form a square angle in the sky, we are three quarters of the way through the lunar cycle. The square angle may create inner tension to help you question your choices and clarify your values. Like the Enchantress, you have the maturity and sovereignty to process life lessons and take responsibility for your actions.

Waning Crescent

As the Moon orbits towards the Sun, it prepares for a new lunar cycle. The dark moon heightens your intuition and introspection.

Eclipses

About four times a year, the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow or vice versa. For the most part, the Earth, Moon, and Sun do not perfectly align because the Moon’s orbit around Earth is about 5 degrees off from Earth’s orbit around the Sun. However, when they do line up, we experience solar and lunar eclipses.

Eclipses push you out of your comfort zone and onto the right path for growth. Eclipse season isn’t a time for manifestation rituals. Instead, let go and have faith that all is unfolding in perfect time.
