Goddess Hecate
I will lead you into uncovering all that has kept you bound and gagged for centuries. We will heal this together, you and I. Trust me, for I know the way, even when it is concealed by shadows and uncertainty. I am Hecate.
– Sophie Bashford, You are a Goddess
Once Upon A Time
there was a Greek goddess of transformation named Hecate. Her power to live between the worlds of the living and the dead, between the past and the future, was legendary, even threatening to the almighty Zeus.
Known for her protection of women, when sweet Persephone was abducted, Hecate helped Persephone’s mother, Demeter, search tirelessly across the planet for her missing daughter.
They finally found Persephone deep in the underworld, sitting comfortably next to Hades, the dark god of the dead. Good girl Persephone and bad boy Hades were a steamy match made in hell. Some say that Persephone was abducted by Hades, but I think that she simply couldn’t resist Hades’s sexy, hardcore vibes.
Still, Mother Demeter wanted her daughter back. And so, she made a deal with the devil. Hades would release Persephone only if Persephone hadn’t eaten anything during her stay in the underworld.
But alas, the sweet girl had eaten six pomegranate seeds, which bound her to the underworld for six months of every year.
From autumn to winter, Demeter, the goddess of fertility, mourns her missing daughter, causing the plants to wither and die. And when Persephone surfaces in the spring, Demeter rejoices, bringing vegetation to Earth once again.
As the earth ebbs and flows between seasons, Hecate stays by Persephone’s side in both realms. As a reward for Hecate’s friendship with Persephone, Hades gifted Hecate with the ability to talk to spirits.
Hecate Wisdom
When you are experiencing the ending of a cycle, Hecate guides you at the crossroads. In this uncomfortable space – the threshold of new beginnings, the divine chaperone reminds you that there are no right or wrong choices. But you must choose.
Hecate reminds you to trust your inner wise woman. Indeed, that inner voice has a mystical perspective to help you move forward with faith.
As you navigate this transitional space, let go of expectations. You cannot know what is on the other side of this growth. But one thing is for certain, there will be challenges and mistakes along the way. Have faith that you will come out of this experience a more evolved version of yourself.
