When the dog looks at you, the dog is not thinking what kind of a person you are. The dog is not judging you.– Eckhart Tolle
Once Upon A Time
there was a loyal and physically gifted dog named Argos. Argos was fiercely faithful to his owner, Odysseus, until his very last breaths.
The poor dog was separated from Odysseus for twenty long years while his owner struggled to return to Ithaca. In his absence, horrible suitors took over their home in hopes of marrying Odysseus’s wife, Penelope.
When Odysseus finally makes it home, he had to come up with a crafty plan to sneak up on the suitors and take back his home.
Disguised as a beggar, he found his beloved Argos lying neglected and tired on a pile of poop. Argos wagged his tail for a brief moment at the sight of Odysseus, before passing away. Odysseus’s loyal companion did not want to give away his identity and ruin his grand plan.
Imagine what the world would be like if we all expressed the same loyalty, affection and love as dogs do? Even on our bad days, dogs love us unconditionally and bring heaps compassion and kindness. Their warm cuddles and excitement to see us after a long day simply melt our hearts.
Dogs show us how to be better humans. With a dose of acceptance, loyalty, compassion, and grizzly hugs, you’re already the best friend a person could ask for.
The Dog Spirit also calls on us to appreciate the little pleasures in life. A walk around the block or a frosted treat never cease to light up their faces with delight. Why not show the same enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures?
